Kirunavaara:
Thank you very much for your reply.
I am only missing the Focus I and IV audiotapes from the whole 353 series. The others I have in my collection, which I guess you know because of the exposure on the site.
I've recorded both Focus II and Studio types, I didn't pay such detailed attention to the tape, I would have to find those audiotapes, I have a large amount of them at home, otherwise I would provide photos immediately. But I assumed both Type II's were FeCo, probably directly GMS/TY, but I'd really have to do a comparison. Sonically, I was satisfied.
I only tried the Studio IV on an Akai DX (classic Hard Permalloy head) and the quality seemed very good, I'll have to find that cassette again and compare directly with the Suono, regarding that Shell.
I've also recording That's Suono itself, I know they addressed the stuff about the yellow unknown thing, which I wouldn't have even noticed if you hadn't directly linked to my scan of the booklet here on the forum.
I've recording the Suono tape, and tried it on other machines before. The result was functional, but the quality was not to my expectations, on some tape decks the recording sometimes behaved like putting a metal audio cassette into a machine that only records on Type I, poor build up, poor sound.
In addition, my Suono tended to leave longitudinal grooves on almost all tape decks, many times worse than usual on TDK.
Of course for the Suono I also have a link to the details if anyone is interested.
I would call the Suono very magnetically hard and durable, maybe it's the age, but almost all packaged audio tapes out of the box have very poor parameters that don't match what the manufacturer states. But if I have a period used audiotape, for example Sony Metal XR, I record it again so the quality is very high, yet the same model just unwrapped from the foil suffers from all sorts of recording problems. And this is not the only case, I have hundreds of such experiences with audio cassettes.
I still want to say about the Suono Shell, until now I thought that all audiotapes with this shell are made of "ordinary plastic", only the Suono model is the hard case. I didn't really think this would apply to the Basf Studio IV, I'll have to take the time to look for that piece of audiocassette.
My Slovakian colleagues were again very complimentary about the Quantegy 472 in Suono format, I'd also be interested to know what tape was used.
My Quantegy 472 on the website is again an original Made in USA, the shell design is very similar, but the USA version has flip up write protection, remotely similar to the type on TDK MAR/MAXG, Sony SMM.
I will have to find out many more things from you regarding various audiocassettes, for example I am currently interested in what the Agfa Low Noise audiocassettes are in the transparent shell I have recently acquired, or the Basf LH blue version where the dates don't match the serial numbers, also the tape is considerably darker and very powerful compared to the classic Ferro Extra I.
I look forward to hearing back !
