PDM Tri Oxide Ferro are different tapes for 1981 and 1983. The 1981 version is identical to Philips Ultra Ferro (and Marantz MF1), only the 1983 version has that black mystery tape which I don't know from any Philips cassette.
The BASF metallpigment (the very one which appears on the web again and again, with oval window shell and golden labels) is here in my collection :-) It looks like a prototype, with the tape manually spliced into the cassette. Making metal tape was still at an experimental stage and expensive, so they wound in just enough for a testing sample. But I have actually not measured its playing time yet, could be thinner C-90 tape. Metal coating is also thinner (3 microns) than C-60/90 tye I and II coating (5-6 microns), but that shouldn't make such a big difference.
With the Philips Metal, I am not sure, probably a similar case.
Regards
Martin
