telcom c4 hat vier Frequenzbänder mit angepassten Ein- und Ausschwingzeiten, High Com ist ein Breitbandkompander und als solcher für Rauschpumpen wesentlich anfälliger.
telcom c4 arbeitet streng pegellinear, mit einem logarithmischen Kompressionsfaktor von 1,5:1 (also 15 dB des Originalsignals werden auf 10 dB komprimiert) und muss deswegen - im Gegensatz zu High Com - nicht penibel eingepegelt werden. Zur Identifikation telcomisierter Bänder gibt es speziellen Kennton (Rundfunkjargon: Dödelheimer), der rhythmisch zwischen 550 und 650 Hz wechselt. Der High Com Testton hat 400 Hz.
