Finally a response to this problem !
To tell you the truth, I hate TDK marketing
My understanding is that NP Avilyn is a lower form than Avilyn, or just an interesting marketing name.
AR is NP Ferrics, or NP Avilyn.
AR-X is a two-layer Avilyn.
AD-X is single Avilyn.
SF is also just Avilyn, but what is premium for Type I is just base grade for Type II.
In addition to the Non Porous name in the formulation I have seen before with Maxell and Raks.
I really can't imagine what that means for the manufacturing process, or the actual pigment composition.
While we're on the subject of TDK, could someone tell me why the TDK AD in the latest generation has the same tape color as the TDK D?
I had such a dilemma with CDing1 as well, which is supposed to contain AD tape, my older 100min is AD but the new ones already look like D, so I compared it with TDK AD last generation and indeed the same problem.
