Zitat:XLII Black Magnetite is black, XLII-S is significantly lighter, XLII does not show through, XLII-S shows through subtly.First XLII Black Magnetite is more brown, it's the second version of XLII BM that is almost black and almost opaque.
None of these Maxells are really opaque they all shine through to some degree!
The only tapes I found that are 100% opaque are CrO2 tapes.
Zitat:That's why I would never have thought that OEM brands would use a heavy case and not just "format Suono" But Basf probably required it...That's (Taiyo Yuden) went out of tape buisiness around 1993 and GM in Singapour bought the leftovers, so there was no That's at late 1994 when the BASF Studio tapes arrived.
...I'd be interested in the pricing policy at the time of the current sale compared to That's audiotapes.
So they obviously bought the shell from GenMag for less money than That's would have made them pay. But I doubt That's would have sold them to BASF when the Souno was still in production.
Zitat:I considered it as classic aging of paper and materialsI thoght it's just glue someone spilled... but when I found the same yellow stuff inside of the cassette it became clear that spots on the j-card were also from the shell.
And then I looked at your site to see if it happens to That's Souno too... and yes a very light spot, and the same color.
Zitat:So, can I correct the tape and composition descriptions on my page for the Focus and Studio cartridges in turn?I would write "most probaly maxell XLII / XLII-S, because it's not 100% sure. The measurement does not confirm and the yellow stuuf ruined the tape is most probably true but also not 100%. The STEREO review seems to confirm. ANd also BASF also used the BM tape in the TPII, so Maxell is very likely.
But there is also the Stereoplay review that had all these tapes and they came out slightly different in that test.
