Hi
Along with the audio tapes I wrote about in another thread, I also got a used VHS for a good price, which I will also add to my website.
VHS to me is not as well researched as audiocassettes, so there are still many things I don't know about. There are many cassettes in the photo that I already know, but also many that are new to me.
Philips and PDM should probably only contain chromium dioxide, none some pieces contain a lighter gray-brown band, obvious FeCo composition, but the shells are correct, two different interesting types of Philips. So how did they fill their VHS with tapes, not only their own, but also from other manufacturers?
Kodak is Made in Korea, there is a design match with Scena brand VHS.
Akai will probably be JVC, but besides the fact that JVC says Made in W.Germany, I don't know if they made their own tapes and components in Germany, or if they imported and just assembled and filled in Germany?
Sony and TDK may be clear on things.
In the case of the new TDK Life On Record, there is a Saehan Korea video cassette inside, as was also the case under Maxell and other brands in the last years before the end of VHS.
Emtec EQ says Made in EU, I assume that there is still genuine "Basf" tape, although probably already FeCo, but definitely not pure chromium dioxide as claimed by the advertisement and packaging.
Panasonic SP also has FeCo tape, but I don't know how they were doing in the development of their own tape, or did they cooperate with TDK? In the Panasonic 1995 Catalog, the higher models mention "Magnum" magnetic particles, which sounds interesting, but I always considered Panasonic Japan VHS to be of higher possible quality.
But in one case of Panasonic VHS-C I found different colors of the tapes on the top and bottom, which reminds me a lot of the Angrom audio tapes, does anyone know the details?
I will provide more detailed photos if needed, or wait for the VHS to be on the web along with the audio tapes with a few days to see the design of the shells.
Best regards, EZ
