Kauftonbänder mit Dolby, aber ohne Hinweis
#4
Hallo

"Lubricant loss problem on Barclay Crocker reels (and how to play them when still possible):Reels produced in 1977/78 happen to suffer from lubricant loss and the well known sticky shed syndrome. In most cases, the tape will squeak on the tape guides of your recorder due to the uneven and very slightly sticky tape surface. It is possible that a tape squeaks on one side but not the other due to different tape tension. Bad tapes can increase head wear and generate highly audible distortion. In some cases, the tape can still be played by reducing the tape tension. For example, disconnecting the supply reel motor on a Revox may allow the tape to play fine, although a quality transfer is recommended. If your tape is stuck, try playing it without head contact. Although the tape will have become more abrasive and prone to head wear, it is still possible to transfer it. In any case, it is not recommended to play defect Barclay Crocker tapes regularly. Labels known to suffer from these problems are MHS, VAN and UNC. Remember: such tapes have the second digit of their Quality Control code equal 7 or 8"
